NavTrail is built on open data. This page names the projects whose work the app relies on, and the licences that work is published under.
Searching for a town, village, peak or mountain pass uses a local copy of data from GeoNames, published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. GeoNames covers populated places worldwide; NavTrail imports it and stores it on its own servers, so no search you type is sent to GeoNames.
Romanian places, peaks, passes and landmarks come from a separate, more detailed extract of OpenStreetMap, published under the Open Database Licence. OpenStreetMap is maintained by a global community of volunteer mappers, and the terrain detail off-road navigation depends on — saddles, passes, rock formations — exists because those people put it there.
The map layers, the address search on the main map, and route calculation each use their own sources:

None of these projects are paid for their work by NavTrail, and all of them could have kept their data closed. Off-road navigation in places most commercial maps ignore is possible because they did not. If you find something wrong on the map, the best fix is to correct it at the source — an edit to OpenStreetMap reaches every application that uses it, not just this one.
