NavTrail — Child Safety Standards

NavTrail has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This document sets out the standards we hold, how anyone can report a concern, and what we do when we receive one. The current version always lives at https://navtrail.app/csae.

1. What NavTrail is

NavTrail is an off-road navigation and safety application, not a social network in the usual sense. A member has a public profile limited to a username, a rank and badges earned in the app; members can leave comments on points of interest and published routes; a member can follow another to be notified of that person's new public contributions. There is no user directory, no search for people inside the app (a profile is reached only from something the person published), no friend requests, and no way to contact a stranger outside the travel-partners board described in section 5.

The app does include one messaging feature — convoy messaging — and section 5 describes exactly what it is and the controls around it.

The content a user can publish is limited to: points of interest on a shared map (a name, a short description, and an optional photo), temporary hazard and emergency markers, routes they choose to publish (with up to two photos), comments of at most 500 characters on points of interest and published routes, and the travel-partners listings of section 5. This narrow surface is deliberate — it keeps the volume of user content proportionate to what our team can genuinely review.

2. Prohibited content and conduct

The following are prohibited absolutely, and are grounds for immediate removal of content and permanent termination of the account, without warning:

• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form.
• Any sexualised depiction of a minor, including drawings, digitally generated, or altered imagery.
• Content that solicits, facilitates, promotes, or normalises the sexual abuse or exploitation of children.
• Grooming behaviour, or attempting to use the app to make contact with a minor for sexual purposes.
• Trafficking, sextortion, or the sexualisation of minors in any other form.

These prohibitions apply to every field a user can fill in and to every photo a user can upload.

3. How to report

In the app. Every photo and every point of interest published by another user carries a report control. Reporting takes two taps and requires no explanation. Reports reach us immediately.

By email. Anyone — whether or not they use NavTrail — can report a concern directly to contact@navtrail.app. This address is monitored by the operator. Please include enough detail to identify the content, such as the name of the point of interest and its approximate location.

You do not need an account to email us, and you may report anonymously.

4. What we do when we receive a report

1. Removal. Content reported as CSAE is removed as soon as it is confirmed. We treat these reports as the highest priority and ahead of all other moderation work.
2. Account termination. The account responsible is terminated permanently. We do not issue warnings for CSAE.
3. Preservation. We preserve the associated records needed by law enforcement rather than destroying them.
4. Reporting to authorities. We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the relevant authorities, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and, where applicable, Romanian law enforcement. We cooperate fully with lawful requests arising from such reports.

5. Preventive measures

• Attribution. Only signed-in, email-verified accounts can upload a photo, and every photo is permanently attributable to the account that uploaded it. Anonymous photo upload is not possible.
• Restricted scope. A photo can only be added to a point of interest by the person who created it, and there is a hard limit of one photo per point of interest and two per saved route. This is enforced on the server.
• Messaging is limited and gated. Two features carry messages. A convoy is a small private group you can join only with a short code handed to you directly by the person who created it; its messages are fixed presets or 80 characters of free text, shown briefly on the map and never stored on our servers, and the group expires 48 hours after its last activity. The travel-partners board lets adults post a planned off-road trip and ask to join one; a conversation there opens only after the trip's poster replies to a request, is limited to those two people, is screened by the text filter, and public listings cannot carry contact details (the server rejects them). There is no directory of people, no search for people and no friend requests; a member can follow another to be notified of that person's new public contributions, which is one-way, needs no approval and opens no conversation. There is no way to message anyone who has not opened a conversation with you, and no way to see who is nearby. Either participant can block the other, which closes the conversation in both directions.
• Comments are public and screened. A comment on a point of interest or a published route requires a confirmed account with a public username, passes the text filter, cannot carry contact details, is reportable by anyone, hides automatically once three different users report it, and is reviewed within 24 hours.
• Adults only on the board. Posting a trip or asking to join one requires an explicit declaration of being 18 or older, and a one-time safety notice is shown before a first request.
• Every message is reportable. A message from the other participant can be reported from inside the conversation; the report alerts the operator immediately and is reviewed within 24 hours.
• Text filtering. All free text is screened by a server-side filter before it can be stored.
• Rapid community takedown. A photo is hidden automatically once two different people report it, without waiting for operator review.
• Blocking. Any user can block another user, which immediately hides all of that person's content from them.
• Operator review. Every report generates an immediate alert to the operator and enters a single review queue. See our Content Moderation Policy for the full mechanics.

We state plainly what we do not do: NavTrail does not run automated image classification over uploaded photos. We rely on restricted upload rights, attribution, rapid community reporting, a low automatic-hide threshold, and human review. We would rather describe our safeguards accurately than claim capabilities we do not have.

We aim to acknowledge child-safety reports within 24 hours and to act on confirmed reports immediately.

7. Age of users

NavTrail is intended for adults who drive off-road vehicles. It is not designed for, marketed to, or directed at children. The travel-partners board is restricted to users who declare they are 18 or older before their first trip or request.

8. Updates to these standards

These standards may change as the app grows. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date at the top of this document.
